Update from Edmonton Greenbelt

Last week Bob facilitated the first module of Greenbelt in Edmonton. The first kaizen was focused on 5S at a company specializing in the manufacturing of radiant panels for both heating and cooling.

The class broke up into three teams to address three areas:

Crating

Grinding

Welding
A lot of transformation for the company in only 3 days. But there was still time for fun!

Contact us if you would like to host one of the modules of Greenbelt. Most of the Winter session modules have been claimed but we are still taking requests for Spring and Summer. Below are all the module topics. Contact us for dates.

Module 1 - 5S
Module 2 - Cycle/Process Time Reduction
Module 3 - Lean Office Kaizen or Value Innovation

We're just over a month away from our renowned Japan Lean Tour.  Having taken several hundred people to Japan, we've continuously improved our program over the past decade.  It has become the benchmark trip of choice for many lean champions.

Excited Blackbelts, executives and LSI staff are now getting ready for this special event, which we conduct three times a year.  We will be posting day-by-day updates starting next month.

Videos from past Japan trips can be seen on our youtube channel below:

Teamwork, friendship, and reflections

This is one of the busiest times for Lean Sensei, as numerous projects and programs are all being kicked-off simultaneously in various locations.  We have Greenbelt, Blackbelt, Executive Programs and Benchmarking Tours happening in Canada, US, and other international locations.

However, we do take the time to enjoy each other's company and friendship whenever we can.  We had an amazing time over the summer with our staff during LSI's retreat, and we frequently go out for lunch to celebrate birthdays and other special events.  The coaches - who all happen to like fishing - often go out on fishing excursions to catch salmon, ling cods, and crabs locally.

Here are some photos from a variety of social and corporate events this year that focus on building teamwork and friendship.  We are very thankful to have such an enthusiastic and passionate group of people working at LSI.

NEW: Hybrid Executive Lean Program!

Take a look at the team building activity from day 2 of the Hybrid Executive Lean Program!

The task was to build a shelter to prevent a raw egg from breaking upon impact from a 6-foot free fall. Each team only had a limited number of straws and an arms' length of scotch tape to build their protective apparatus. In the real world, we often have to make due with finite resources and time constraints to solve critical issues as demonstrated by this team building activity. The teams had to use their imagination and creativity and realized that only having a good idea is not enough. The next step is to expand on it and implement your idea into actions with your teammates.

It was awesome to see how our executives could succeed in this task!

Creativity and team work are inherent and important aspects of Lean thinking. Our dynamic programs use a variety of teaching methods such as tactile, team building activities to communicate lean concepts.
