Greenbelt Operations Vancouver Winter 2014

A big congratulations to the first graduating Greenbelt class of 2014!

Everyone worked so hard to reach this point. Here is a look back at the first Module:

And today:

It's obvious to see the changes that have occurred in the group through the three modules through a combination of perseverance, teamwork, camaraderie, and value stream mapping!

In recognition of the top performers of the class, three medals were presented to the group. These awards are cumulative and look at the overall performance throughout all three modules. The criteria for the awards include:

-Teamwork & Leadership in Kaizens and group activities
-Project achievements & total cost savings
-Overall transformation over the three modules
-Final Presentation
-Final Exam score

 Bronze medal (Kevin)

  Silver medal (Chris)

Gold medal (Jason)

It has been a long road and it doesn't stop here. We are looking forward to seeing the positive changes that will continue to come forth from this group and we know they will set the bar high for the numerous other Greenbelt groups that will graduate this year.

Have a great weekend!

Greenbelt Vancouver Versus Greenbelt Alberta

This week Greenbelt Operations in Vancouver is in the home stretch! The last module opened with a kaizen on theme of Lean Office. Even companies whose business is mainly manufacturing focused need to address the transactional side of the business to truly become lean
And lean is what this company is becoming. The class brought about great transformations in this single kaizen:

PRODUCTION PLANNING PROCESS

REDUCTION IN DATA ENTRY ERRORS FROM 10 TO 0
PTR OF 180 MINUTES IN PLANNING PROCESS 35% 
INVENTORY TEAM: 6 HOUR SAVINGS DAILY = 1560 HOURS/YEAR 
SCHEDULE WORST TIME REDUCED FROM 520 MINUTES TO 340 MINUTES DAILY.

CUSTOMS DOCUMENT PROCESS

LESS CHANCE OF ORDERS HELD BY FDA
ON TIME DELIVERY
QUALITY CONTROL -TRACKING OF COO
PREVIOUS TIME REQUIRED ONE YEAR 783HRS
PROPOSED FUTURE TIME IN ONE YEAR: 33HRS : DIFFERENCE OF 750HRS

ORDER TO DELIVERY PROCESS

TIME SAVED: MORE THAN 22.5% GOAL
REDUCTION OF MISSING COFA: 22.5%

In the prairies, the Alberta group started Lean Sensei's Greenbelt program in the capitol of the province, Edmonton. In module 1, the lessons and kaizen are themed around the quintessential lean tool, 5S.

Can you guess which class is which from the collage above?

Spectacular view of Mount Fuji from the bullet train!

Thank you Japan for the wonderful learning opportunity provided to our first ever Executive Japan Program. The amazing rare view of Mount Fuji was a great way to finish off the program in style and in reflection of the whole week!
